This chapter is the most important chapter in the Book of Mormon. Pay attention to how you feel when you read it. Where were the people gathered?

What were the people talking to each other about?

What did the voice that they heard do to their bodies?

Why do you think that it took the people three times to hear the voice before they understood the voice?

Who did the voice belong to and what did he say?

Who came out of heaven?

What did Christ invite the people to do?

What did the Lord give Nephi the power to do?

What two things must a person do to be baptized?

The Lord says that the spirit of contention, or fighting, is not of him but is of the devil. Write a mini-sermon on this subject.

The Lord declares his doctrine. What does he tell us that we need to do?

The Lord tells us that we need to become as little children. What qualities do little children have that he wants us to have?

What do you think that it means to be meek?

What do you think that it means that the pure in heart will see God?

I love this verse. I love the concept that Christ’s light shines through us. Write a mini sermon on what you do to allow Christ’s light to shine through your life.

Notice that not only do your actions matter, but also what you do in your heart.

What do you think the Lord is trying to teach when he says that if a person is to smite, or hit, you on your right cheek to also let him hit you on the other cheek?

This verse teaches us to build our houses upon rocks. Rocks are a strong foundation. Christ is referring to our lives. What sure foundation do you think that Christ wants us to build our lives upon?

Doing alms means giving to the poor. Why do you think that the Lord tells us to give in secret?

The Lord gives an example of how to pray. What can you learn from this example? What does the Lord want you to pray for?

A mote is a small speck, like sawdust. A beam is a large plank of wood. What do you think that the Lord is trying to teach in these verses?

This verse teaches a good gauge to know if you are treating others well. What is the gauge that Christ teaches in this verse?
