YoYo Games have really got the things rolling. They are have announced many improvements to there three fold mission of publishing, creating tools, and creating a community. My personal favorite thing mentioned are the improvements they are planning for HTML 5.
Game Maker HTML5. We’ve been so impressed with the results that Mike and Russell are now working pretty much full time to create a product that you’ll be able to buy. It will be much cheaper than Game Maker Studio, but more expensive than Game Maker Standard. At the moment no exact details of launch or price have been decided, but we’re confident we can make this happen this year.
Oh yeah. Flash is going to be beat out by GM HTML 5 games.
Although we haven’t completely given up supporting Sony’s platforms our activities are definitely on hold.
I bet YoYo Games would gladly let us put up with the hassle of publishing with Sony, and support the PSP in Game Maker Studios. If you own a PSP don’t expect YoYo Games to publish many games to it; at least not in the short term.
working hard on a plan to improve the best parts of the site, erase the sad and tired bits, fix stuff that is important but doesn’t work well and give the whole place a completely fresh look and feel this summer
Badly needed. Especially know that they have a lot bigger community and the potential for HTML 5 games to appear on the site.
We’re currently looking at Smart TV, Windows phone 7 and Symbian
I don’t know what it is with YoYo Games and weird platforms. Before they wanted to port to the meebo, Windows phone 7, and one more if I’m not mistaken. Smart TV, Windows phone 7 and Symbian are only possibilities and may not be available for a while.
we will be adding other important “team” features like version control to Game Maker “Studio Edition”
It’s likely that everyone in the team would need Game Maker Studios for it to work properly.
[paragraph about Game Maker Studios]
If you believe you have talent to get your games published, and/or can’t wait until 2012
It looks like Game Maker Studios won’t be available until 2012. That’s alright because Mike and Russell are working hard to get GM to port to HTML 5. Once that product is released you can play games on just about any device.
I also think HTML5 will be the most interesting improvement to Game Maker.
I just wrote a blog post about the two most interesting things Mike told me at the gamescom last Wednesday:
