Game Maker 8.1 has arrived. There are lots of
new features in GameMaker 8.1; however, there have been some changes that could be problematic for some games. If this is the case you should still upgrade as the upgrade doesn’t replace GM8.0 allowing you to use GM8.0 after you upgrade.
Here are some reasons why upgrading may be problematic:
- Overloading now works different. You
have to can and will have to in later versions access the argument from the array argument[x] if you want to be able to have overloading in a script.
The DLL’s surface fix and Super Sound have both been reported to not work- upgrading seems to be a problem for some people. The Game Maker Blog has made a nice tutorial that shows you how to upgrade, but if your still having problems you can contact YoYo Games’ help desk @ yoyogames.mojohelpdesk.com.
- Lots of bugs. There is a built in updating system, to update GM when these bugs are fixed.
If you plan on buying GameMaker you had better do it before June 1st because that’s when the price will jump up to $40.
