Why didn’t the learned man, the man with education, read the words?

The Lord says that not only does the man need to read the words but also obtain a witness of the words. What do you know about Joseph Smith obtaining witnesses to the records of these words?

2 Nephi 28:28
What does a person who is built upon a rock receive with gladness?
2 Nephi 28:30
The Lord teaches us a little bit by a little bit. Think about different principles that you have learned about in your life and how the knowledge about them have come a little at a time. Different principles that we learn about may include prayer, fasting, following the prophet, revelation, obedience, faith, steadfastness, or many other things. You might want to focus on one of these principles, or one of your own choosing, and reflect on it while you read the Book of Mormon. Pray to God that he will teach you more about this principle while you read. The Lord will bless you for your efforts.

2 Nephi 33:12
I love this verse. I love the concept that God is just and has set up a plan that makes it possible for all of his children to return to him. I, along with Nephi, have that same hope: that many of us, and perhaps all of us, will be saved at the last day.
